Ukuleles can often be a popular gift at this time of year. It is my suggestion that if you are looking for some decent ukuleles that won’t break the bank, look into the following brands: Kala, Makala, Ohana, and Cordoba. All three of our major music stores carry at least some of these brands; Larsen Music, Long and McQuade, and Tom Lee Music. If you need any advice, don’t hesitate to ask Mr. Martin about anything musical.
ISLAND UKULELES: An opportunity exists for students in grades 4 and 5 (and potentially dedicated grade 3 students) that want to learn ukuleles at a higher level. Island Ukuleles is a SD61 program running on Monday nights at Oak Bay High School that currently has more than 100 students from approximately 40 different schools. A letter will come home in the last week before winter break. If you want more information, you can visit islandukulele.org for more details.
Ukulele club is beginning at Strawberry Vale. It is an open club for grade 4 and 5 students that are looking for more time on their ukuleles and is hosted Fridays at Lunch Recess with Mr. Martin in the Music Room.
Aloha! What a wonderful set of concerts we had on December 8th. Despite the freezing temperatures outside, it was a warm and enjoyable atmosphere inside! The children performed brilliantly and a great time was had by all. If you have any photos or videos of the concert and you would like to forward them along, please send them firstname.lastname@example.org Mahalo Nui!
