It is a pleasure to join the Strawberry Vale school community! As I walk the grounds and become familiar with all that it has to offer, I can only imagine the wonderful learning opportunities that this space must foster. Large open playing fields, climbing rocks and structures, a magical path that would engage a young mind and lead to fantastic imaginative play, a pond to care for, explore and study all surrounded by Garry Oak trees. This landscape enables our children to explore the beauty and wonders of all that nature has to offer right here on our school site. How lucky are we!
Towards the end of last year, I had the pleasure of attending a professional development day with the staff. Much of our discussion centered on developing the nature-based school theme currently in place and ways to make this happen. I cannot say enough about the benefits of bringing children’s learning outside and bringing the outside inside! A nature-based program is a central focus here coupled with the infusion of technology. I also look forward to being apart of and supporting a continued focus on global awareness, visual art projects and the performing arts through school–wide productions. I can hardly wait to be a part of all these incredible projects.
